Founded in 1993, Independent University, Bangladesh is one of the oldest private universities in Bangladesh, where academic excellence is a tradition, teaching a passion and lifelong learning a habit.

IUB currently has more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students and over 14,000 alumni. The student population is projected to grow at 10% annually. The students of IUB experience an exciting academic life with copious opportunities to explore and nurture their innate talents.

IUB has always maintained its motto of sustaining an ideal student teacher ratio of 20:1. It has close to 470 faculty members committed to deliver academic excellence and provide the students a unique learning experience. Hence the teaching approach of our world class community of faculty is distinctive.

The university has moved to its new US $ 30 million state-of-the-art campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. It also has dormitory facilities and a guest house for international students and visiting scholars.

IUB is distinctive in its emphasis on a broad-based liberal arts curriculum based on a North American model, which is significantly at variance with traditional discipline-specific curricula of other universities in the country and the region. The mission of IUB is to deliver a high-quality education that will help foster thinking across disciplines, encourage tolerance and understanding of diverse cultural and social traditions, nurture essential values and prepare students for a fast-changing world.

The University has six schools (the School of Pharmacy & Public Health, School of Business & Entrepreneurship, School of Engineering, Technology & Sciences, School of Environmental Science & Life Sciences, and School of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences) offering 4-year undergraduate programs in Pharmacy, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Management, MIS, HR Management, Economics, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Science, English Literature, English Language Teaching, Media & Communication, Anthropology, and Environmental Science & Management, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology. IUB also offers graduate programs at the master's level in Business Administration, Computer Science, Telecommunication Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Networks and Communications, Public Health, Development Studies, and Natural Resources & Disaster Management, Environment & Management, and Biotechnology & Bioinformatics. Currently, like other private universities, approximately 69% of the student enrollment is in pharmacy and business-related subjects reflecting market demands.

To support research and training on cutting-edge issues of national and global importance, IUB, in collaboration with Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies and International Institute for Environment and Development in the UK, has set up an International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD). ICCCAD will be able to draw on the extensive resources of IUB across a range of disciplines relevant to climate change and development.

Following the philosophy on which the University was founded- the best of both worlds-IUB has liased with some of the world's best universities and institutions to provide an academic environment relevant to the contemporary world. IUB has established collaborative arrangements in research, faculty and student exchange and curriculum development with several foreign universities and institutions like Harvard University, Stanford University, Brown University, the University of Colorado, Hamline University, the Higher Education Consortium of Urban Affairs (HECUA) in Minnesota, USA, McMaster University, Canada, Middlesex University, UK, Pokhara University, Nepal, Can Tho University, Vietnam. Besides these, IUB is also offering three 2+2 programs in collaboration with Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (SIUC), USA, University of South Australia (UniSA), Australia, Griffith College, Dublin (GCD), Ireland. Under these programs, a student can complete two years of the BBA/ Media Communication program at IUB and then get a transfer to the respective partner university and complete the remaining two years over there.

There has been a steady flow of international students and visiting scholars to its campus. IUB's pioneering program, Live-in-Field Experience, where students get a distinctive opportunity to learn about rural life, complement the unique course, National Culture and Heritage, a comprehensive study of the history, society and culture of Bangladesh. These programs have received acclamation from home and abroad. IUB has been successfully hosting study-abroad programs for cohort of foreign students on a regular basis in partnership with top tier universities of USA such as Harvard University, Vermont University, Southern Illinois University and Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs. In fact, IUB is the private university in Bangladesh which has hosted the highest number of international students and top scholars from across the world.

In order to maintain standards of academic administration, programme association and collaborate on mutually interesting endeavors, the University has associated itself with a number of international academic associations such as the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Commonwealth Education Partnership(CEP), American Association of University Administrators (AAUA), Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), International Association of Universities (IAU).

Over the years, IUB has given this world a significant number of quality graduates who have distinguished themselves in their respective field at home and abroad. IUB equips students with knowledge, values, skills, qualities that make them extraordinary.
